How to Change Video Speed: Slow Motion, Fast Motion, and Everything In Between
Changing a video's playback speed opens up a world of creative and practical possibilities. Slow down a highlight to let viewers catch every detail. Speed through a long lecture to save time. Create a time-lapse from a lengthy recording. And with SaveVex, you can do all of this while keeping the audio sounding completely natural.
Why Change Video Speed?
Different speeds serve different purposes, and each has its sweet spot:
- Slow motion (0.25ร โ 0.5ร): Ideal for sports replays, product close-ups, or any moment you want viewers to absorb in detail. A 10-second clip at 0.25ร stretches to 40 seconds of dramatic slow motion.
- Moderate speed-up (1.25ร โ 1.5ร): Perfect for lectures, tutorials, and presentations where you want to get through the content faster while still understanding every word. A 60-minute lecture at 1.5ร finishes in 40 minutes.
- Fast-forward (2ร โ 4ร): Great for skimming long recordings or creating fun time-lapse effects. An hour-long screen recording becomes just 15 minutes at 4ร speed.
How to Use SaveVex's Video Speed Controller
Our Video Speed Controller makes adjusting playback speed as easy as dragging a slider.
Step 1: Upload Your Video
Drag your video file onto the upload area. Supported formats include MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI, and MKV up to 500 MB. The video preview loads right away so you can start experimenting with speeds immediately.
Step 2: Choose Your Speed
Three ways to set the speed, all synced together:
- Preset buttons: Quick-select any of nine common speeds โ 0.25ร, 0.5ร, 0.75ร, 1ร, 1.25ร, 1.5ร, 2ร, 3ร, or 4ร. One click and you're set.
- Slider: Drag anywhere between 0.25ร and 4ร for precise control in 0.05ร increments.
- Manual input: Type an exact speed value directly.
As you set the speed, two things update in real time:
- The preview video: Press play to hear exactly what the speed change sounds like. The audio pitch stays natural โ voices remain voices, not high-pitched squeaks or low rumbles.
- The duration display: See exactly how long your output will be. A 10-minute video at 2ร becomes 5 minutes; at 0.25ร, it becomes 40 minutes.
Step 3: Process and Download
Click "Change Speed," let the processing complete, and download your video in MP4, MOV, AVI, or MKV format.
Tips for Best Results
- 1.25ร is the sweet spot for learning: Fast enough to save meaningful time, slow enough that speech remains perfectly clear and comfortable to follow.
- Preview before you commit: Use the live preview's play button to check how your speed selection sounds before processing. This is especially useful at very slow or very fast speeds.
- Audio stays natural: Unlike simple playback speed changes that raise or lower the pitch, SaveVex uses a genuine time-stretch technique. Voices, music, and sound effects all sound natural regardless of the speed.
- Check the duration: The duration preview tells you exactly how long your output will be โ helpful for planning social media posts with length limits.
